MUSEUM 588: Introduction to Learning Sciences
Learning is a topic that has puzzled scholars for centuries and over the last one hundred years has been the focus of a significant amount of research. Much of this research has focused on formal schooling environments (i.e., schools), however museums and other informal learning environments are a particularly important context for learning. Museums, in particular, have the capacity to reach a wide range of audiences and engage people with ideas that constraints on formal schooling make difficult. The goal of this course is to understand the history of learning research, its current state, and apply it to museums and other informal learning contexts.
