Instruction & Experience Design
Immediately after my undergraduate career I spent a year teaching English abroad in Japan; this was simultaneously one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences of my life. With little training in instruction beforehand, I learned just how challenging it can be to effectively communicate or teach solely through trial-and-error. (It was also, however, a great training ground for getting back up each time I fell down, assessing what I'd done and where it had failed, and trying again.) In my work as a Reference and Instruction Librarian, I continued to gather reflective and developmental tools for the creation, administration, and assessment of my own instruction, as well as thinking about information literacy at an institutional and programmatic level. Experience design is the future, and I want to be equipped to help shape it.
