Special Collections Finding Aids
Deliverables: Bloedel‐Donovan Lumber Mills Photograph Album Finding Aid; Dillis B. Ward & William A. Dickey Photograph Collection Finding Aid
Primary skills developed: archival processing; creation and formatting of finding aids
--
Description & Significance:
Although much of the knowledge organization that goes on today occurs within the context of the web, it is also important to know the traditions in which descriptive practices for libraries, archives, and other cultural heritage institutions were shaped. Creating these photographic finding aids (unfortunately not yet available on the UW Special Collections site) has provided me with a grounding in archival practices surrounding organization and access, and given me food for thought as I consider the ways in which we continue to apply these functions, and how we might modify them as technology and the materials in our collections shift.
